Attract
What Is Good Into Your Life and Business
This month I thought I would share with you some of the
principles that my students have been learning in my popular class,
Attract What Is Good Into Your Life. Having faith in a power beyond
your self is the most crucial ingredient to attracting what is
good.
There has been a lot of buzz about The Law of Attraction, which
says that you attract to your life whatever you give your energy,
focus, and attention to, whether wanted or unwanted. Everything
in the world is made up of energy, which vibrates at a certain
level. When someone has "bad vibes,” they are sending off
negative energy. When someone is positive and enthusiastic, they
give off “good vibes.” Which person do you think meets with more
success and happiness?
Have you ever heard these phrases: like attracts like, birds
of a feather flock together, and misery loves company? This is
simply the Law of Attraction in action. Below are some personal
and business housekeeping you must attend to in order to attract
good things into your life and business.
How to Attract What is Good:
1. Take good care of yourself first! I know,
I know that's contrary to what most of you were taught, but unless
you manage your time, your space and your life well, you will run
out of energy, with nothing left for others. Think of the oxygen
mask on the airplane. You are told to affix your own mask first,
and then take care of a child that may be traveling with you. Why?
If you don't survive, that child won't have a chance. If your business
is chaotic, or stagnant or draining your energy, it's a sure sign
that you need to manage something about yourself first.
2. Tolerate nothing! Clean up all the irritations,
the daily frustrations and predictable annoyances in your life
once and for all. Make a list of all that clutter, including relationships,
and decide whether to delegate, dump or do each item on your list.
For more information on dealing with tolerations see the Coach's
Bench for June 2003. This is the starting point for getting focused
and energized.
3. Change your attitude! You do have a choice
in how to respond to every event in your life. Is your cup half
full or half empty? David R. Hawkins, M.D., PhD., conducted a 20-year
study, which demonstrated that the human body becomes stronger
or weaker, depending on one's mental state. He keyed these states
to the vibration of molecules in the body. Guess which thoughts
produce the lowest rates? Shame, guilt, apathy, grief, fear, anxiety,
craving, anger and hate. The highest, and therefore most conducive
to peaceful living are willingness, optimism, acceptance and forgiveness,
reason and understanding, love and reverence, joy and serenity,
peace and bliss and enlightenment. Since we are most attracted
to people with the highest rates, and like attracts like, it's
no wonder that a positive attitude attracts better business and
more friends.
4. Add value just for the joy of it! Surprise
your family, friends and customers by giving more than they expect.
Don't give with an expectation of return; give because you want
to. In private life as well as in business a little thoughtfulness
goes a long way and always comes back in one form or another.
5. Market your talents shamelessly! I know,
you were taught to be humble, but some self-acknowledgement of
your unique talents is just what it takes to attract business and
friends. Would you rather be around someone who is falsely modest
or someone who is self-assured and derives pleasure from being
at home in their own skin?
6. Affect others profoundly! Step outside of
yourself and connect with the people around you. Laugh, listen,
encourage, respond, influence! Make someone's life lighter! Make
an impact on your world!
7. Be your own power company! Don't let vexing
situations drain your energy. When you spend a good deal of time
groaning about the evening news, or your boss, or the traffic,
or other situations you can't control, you are giving that person
or that situation your personal power. Don't! You have a choice.
For more on personal power see The Coach's Bench, October 2004.
8. Be a person of impeccable integrity! This
action alone will attract untold good fortune to you and your business.
Be sure you have straight lines of communication (imagine telephone
lines) between you and everyone you know. Say nothing about a person
that you wouldn't say to their face. Be truthful to yourself and
to everyone in your life. The trust that comes from high integrity
will become your most powerful asset.
9. Eliminate delay! Wasting time is irritating
and unattractive. Furthermore it's bad for business. When the ball
is in your court, see to it that you respond without delay. Notice
I said respond, not react. A response is considered and professional;
a reaction is often emotional and unattractive.
10. Orient your life around your values! Consider
what is most important to you. What has given you joy since you
were a child? What would you be hard-pressed to live without? What
combination of values makes you uniquely you? Perhaps it's family,
the out-of-doors, beauty, fun and creativity. To attract what is
good into your life be sure there is plenty of room for your values.
If one of your values is to have fun, you won't be very happy or
attractive unless you are taking time to have fun. If one of your
values is solitude and you are working in sales, you will meet
with limited success. You get the idea.
Attraction is a powerful tool of faith. First, identify what
you want more of in your business and in your life. Second, clear
away what is blocking you by applying the principles above. Finally,
believe that what you want will happen. Eliminate fear and doubt
from your consciousness. Surround yourself with people and circumstances
that give you positive energy. Then stand back; you create your
own reality.
